Geraldo Rivera: “My Son Is Ashamed Of Me”

Geraldo  Rivera was the internet’s most disliked man this weekend after he  sent out a series of tweets implementing that 17-year-old Trayon Martin, slain by  neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, was at fault for looking suspicious  because of his decision to wear a hoodie.

Celebrities, and followers alike attacked Geraldo for his commentary, but  apparently even his own son is not happy about what his father had to say  regarding the Trayvon Martin case.

“My own son just wrote to say he’s ashamed of my position,” the Fox News  contributor tweeted on earlier this weekend. But losing his son’s respect did  not change Geraldo’s views on hoodies as he soon after tweeted:

“Still I feel parents must do whatever they can to keep their kids safe.”

Following the media storm that ensued when Geraldo urged the parents of black  and Latino children to stop them from wearing hoodies, Geraldo reached out to  Politico to explain that his eldest son had expressed shame in his father’s  words.

“Gabriel broke my heart. He’s my oldest, 32, and he just told me that for the  first time in his life he’s ashamed of what I wrote on [Fox News Latino],”

“I wrote him, and I’m telling you that my mission is to save kids’ lives in  the real world,” the Fox News host said. “We can bluster and posture all day  long about the injustice of it all, but despite what Roland Martin or even my  son Gabriel Miguel Rivera says, every hoodie should come with a warning like  cigarettes, ‘caution wearing this could get you killed.’”

But Gabriel didn’t respond well to his father’s explanation.

“Gabriel wrote back to say I’ve gone viral for all the wrong reasons,” Rivera  wrote in another email, with an unhappy face icon at the end of the  sentence.

Geraldo’s son wasn’t the only one who was ashamed by his insensitive  commentary that stated Trayvon’s hoodie was just as responsible for his death as  George Zimmerman was, celebs reached out to show their disapproval of Geraldo’s  commentary as well.

Check out what they had to say in the gallery above.
